EXIF REMOVER

Remove EXIF data and location from photos

Upload your file, see what it carries, then pick one of the cleaning options below. The clean copy downloads to your device; your own file is never changed.

Photos: JPG, TIFF, HEIC, WebP, PNG, AVIF (up to 50 MB). Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM (up to 200 MB).

What each option removes

Once the report opens you get a "Prepare for sharing" button, plus four more options under "More export options". The counts below come from re-scanning our 37-field test JPEG after each option.

Removing metadata from video

For MP4, MOV, M4V and WebM videos, "Prepare for sharing", "Remove GPS only" and "Remove all metadata" are available. On our test video all three removed the GPS location. "Prepare for sharing" and "Remove all metadata" also set the 6 date fields to 0000:00:00 00:00:00; "Remove GPS only" left the dates alone. Video and audio are not re-encoded, so quality stays the same.

How to check the file is clean

Upload the clean copy you downloaded to this same page. The report should say there is no location and list no GPS group. It takes half a minute and tells you the file you are about to share really is clean.

What removing EXIF does not do

Stripping metadata does not change the picture itself. A street sign, a licence plate, the view from a window or a landmark can still give away where you are, even with no tags left in the file.

Frequently asked questions

Does this change my original file?

No. Every cleaning option creates and downloads a new copy. The file on your device stays as it is, and the uploaded copy is deleted automatically after 24 hours.

Can I remove only the location and keep the date?

Yes. "Remove GPS only" removes just the location fields. On our test file 29 of 37 fields remained, with the date and camera details untouched.

Does WhatsApp already remove EXIF data?

When sent as a photo, most metadata is removed. When sent as a document, the file goes as is and all of its metadata is kept. The safest option is to clean it yourself before you share.
